Spectralytics Laser Micromachining

The History Behind the Quality.

In a store-front type building, in the Minneapolis suburb of Edina, Minnesota, inventor, engineer and CEO Gary Oberg started Spectralytics. There was just two people in total working with Gary at the time.

Although Lasers have always been Spectralytics primary business, the items they worked on with the lasers has changed dramatically over the years. At first, the crew was cutting animal skins, wooden ornaments, bird houses - you name it. It wasn't until the medical industry realized the potential for lasers that Spectralytics found its main niche.

In 1998, Gary bought the current 21,000 square foot facility in the town of Dassell, Minnesota. Initially they moved over only the tube cutting tools, but by July of 2000 they had all the equipment moved. The building formerly belonged to a company called Nortronics, and Gary hired some of the former employees.

Soon after the move, business really took off for Spectralytics as more and more companies began to realize Spectralytics capacity, quality and ability to take on the toughest challenge and make it reality.

Currently Spectralytics is a privately held company, with over 100 employees.
